Levelling Up

Raising Standards in Hair and Makeup Across the Performing Arts
Levelling Up is a professional training initiative working across theatre, film, and live performance to raise standards in textured hair and inclusive makeup practice. We support productions and institutions to ensure performers are properly cared for throughout the creative process. This work addresses a longstanding gap in industry training where textured hair has been overlooked, undertaught, or treated as a specialist skill rather than a core requirement. As the industry evolves, this is not optional. It is essential.

What We Do

Structured Training. Practical Application. Industry Integration.
We deliver:
Development training
Workshops and practical sessions
Consultancy and advisory support
Bespoke training programmes for productions

Our work is designed to integrate into existing production workflows, ensuring teams are prepared in real environments, not just theoretical ones.

Performers often arrive on set or stage with the expectation that departments will understand how to support their hair and makeup needs. When this knowledge is missing, it places an unfair burden on performers themselves. By investing in education and preparation, productions can create working environments where everyone feels supported and respected.
